Becoming a parent can be overwhelming, especially if you are alone, have limited resources, or don’t know much about children. Best Start for Babies helps new and expectant parents by giving them the knowledge and confidence to help their babies get the best start possible in life. Best Start for Babies is a 10-week parent education program offered by the Early Childhood Councils of Larimer and Weld counties. Taught in English and Spanish, with family meals provided at each session, this program seeks to serve a diverse population. The program promotes positive child outcomes by providing parenting supports to families during prenatal development and the critically-important first year of life. The classes cover a variety of topics including child development, appropriate nutrition, activities for bonding, and how to find resources. Many of the program participants are isolated and don’t have extended families to provide support and encouragement. As the parents learn together, they form friendships and create support systems that endure beyond the end of the class.
