From Ralph the Medical Dog The Medical Dog Program at Children's Colorado is supported by generous donations from our community. Thank you for helping the Medical Dog program grow.
At Children’s Hospital Colorado, we don’t just focus on a child’s illness – we focus on the whole child. And sometimes, love from a furry, four-legged friend is just what kids need to put them on the path to healing.
In 2019, Children’s Colorado welcomed Ralph, our first full-time medical dog. With the steadfast support of his handler and child life therapist Kizzy, Ralph helps kids heal and cope with the stress that may come with a hospital stay.
As a highly trained therapy dog with five years of experience, Ralph is here to motivate our patients, provide a calm presence and give kids a reason to smile, even when they’re sick. He even helps anxious children to take their medications or to hold still during difficult procedures.
Research shows that animal-assisted therapy can reduce anxiety, diminish pain and expedite healing. Children’s Colorado treats hundreds of thousands of kids every year – and right now we only have one Ralph. We need your help to expand the Medical Dog Program so we can help even more kids. Your donation supports ongoing care for Ralph, while helping us to add more medical dogs to our team.
Thank you for helping kids to cope by supporting the Medical Dog Program.
